We are looking for a dedicated and proactive General Practitioner (GP) to join our innovative Cancer Services Team at Somerset Foundation Trust. The aim of the role is support with some of the projects we have underway to support the NHS target of 75% of patients being diagnosed with a stage 1 or stage 2 cancer by 2028.

The role will include supporting the Lung Self-Referral Programme, the development of additional self-referral pathways, and contribute to the Earlier Cancer Detection Programme. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer across Somerset.

As a GP in this role, you will assist with lung self-referral patients, support the development and expansion of self-referral pathways, and play a vital part in raising awareness and engaging diverse communities in early cancer detection. You will work closely with the wider cancer services team and contribute to improving patient outcomes through early intervention.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lung Self-Referral Programme Support:
  • Review and assess lung self-referral patients requiring GP review.
  • Provide clinical assessments, advice, and referrals in line with established protocols.
• Development of Self-Referral Programmes:
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of self-referral pathways in various areas of healthcare.
  • Create and evaluate materials to support patients in navigating self-referral processes.
• Earlier Cancer Detection Programme Support:
  • Assist with initiatives aimed at improving early diagnosis cancer.
  • Collaborate to enhance early detection strategies.
• Community Outreach and Engagement:
  • Work with local communities to raise awareness of self-referral and early cancer detection.
  • Engage with underserved communities to increase participation in screening and self-referral programmes.
