GP Contract 2026/27 financial information

The 2026/27 GP contract financial information page includes:

  • a practice and primary care network (PCN) ready reckoner
  • information on implementing the GP contract changes for Personal Medical Services (PMS) and Alternative Provider Medical Services (APMS) contracts

Legislation underpinning the GP Contract

A number of legal documents, published by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), formally underpin the GP contract.

The Statement of Financial Entitlements (SFE) sets out payment terms for general medical services (GMS) contractors, which should also be replicated for local personal medical services (PMS) and alternative provider medical services (APMS) contractors.

The Primary Medical Services Directed Enhanced Services Directions set out the requirements for GMS and PMS contractors choosing to provide directed enhanced services (DES), including the Network Contract DES.

2026/27 GP Employment Reimbursement Scheme

Amendments to the GMS Statement of Financial Entitlements (SFE) were published on 1 May which set out the details of the practice level GP reimbursement scheme. The amendments also update reimbursement payments to practices for cover for absent GPs, following the 2026/27 DDRB recommendations, which were accepted in full.

Practices can claim funding under the practice level GP reimbursement scheme from 1 April 2026 until 31 March 2027. The funding can be used for the employment of a new salaried GP, extra sessions from existing salaried GPs and for the continuation of a salaried GP where the post was previously funded through either the PCN Capacity and Access Payment or the PCN Test Sites programme

Further details can be found in our (BMA) new ‘Focus on….GP employment reimbursement scheme’ guidance which we will update and reissue as and when new information becomes available.
